Nhiều người hiểu rằng phong cách gió lùa (gió đùa, windswept form) tức là đặt nghiêng cây và bẻ tất cả các cành quặt về một phía. Thực ra không đơn giản như vậy, những kỹ năng cơ bản không đủ sức diễn tả dáng gió đùa một cách tinh tế. Điểm mấu chốt khi mô tả những cây gió đang thổi là luôn phải tưởng tượng xem nếu gió ngưng thổi thì cây trông thế nào. Như ví dụ dưới đây chẳng hạn, gió mà ngưng thổi là lộ ngay bộ mặt xấu òm của cây, cành đầu tiên quá trống trải, ngọn không có v.v

Các kiểu gió thổi và cách uốn cành

Cây đang bị gió thổi mạnh

Điểm mấu chốt khi uốn dáng này là không phải cứ uốn tất cả các cành song song với nhau theo hướng gió là đẹp. Mà nên uốn kiểu các cành càng mọc ngược gió thì chi dăm của chúng càng hướng lên trời. Điều này được giải thích bởi 2 nguyên nhân:

  1. Cành càng bị bẻ nhiều thì lực đàn hồi của chúng càng lớn, do đó sinh ra lực ngược hướng chống lại sức gió.
  2. Gió mạnh thì cuốn tốc vật cản lên trời (hình D)

Nên để một số cành to mọc ngược hướng gió, bởi bình thường tàn cây xòe đều các phía. Gió không đủ mạnh để bẻ cong được những cành lớn này mà chỉ bẻ được các nhánh nhỏ mà thôi (hình A). Đồng thời nếu thích bạn có thể bẻ quặt một vài cành nho nhỏ xuống phía mặt đất và cho ngọn ngóc lên (những cành này cần ngoặt thật gấp, nhưng tại sao thì mình không giải thích được, có điều bạn tự làm sẽ thấy ngay thôi)

Đối với chậu, nên sử dụng chậu thật mỏng và dài. Chậu mỏng để tăng cảm giác vững chãi của bộ gốc. Chậu dài và đặt lệch cây về phía gió bắt đầu thổi để gió có không gian hoạt động (điều này cũng khó mà giải thích nhưng đại ý là nếu người xem nhìn thấy mép chậu thì họ sẽ nghĩ: gió tới đây là dừng rồi, chuyển sang ngắm tác phẩm khác thôi!)

Những kiến thức đối với cây bị gió thổi mạnh bên trên bạn có thể áp dụng được hết. Chỉ trừ một chuyện là sức gió không đủ thắng nổi trọng lực của lá nên không cuốn cành nhánh tốc lên trời mà chỉ bẻ quặt chúng sang 1 bên (vẫn chúi xuống đất bình thường).

Cây sống trong vùng lộng gió

Những cây sống trong vùng lộng gió (nhưng ngay lúc chụp hình thì trời im gió) có những đoạn cành vừa vừa bị bẻ quặt theo hướng gió, nhưng cành to thì không bị bẻ, và cành dăm nhỏ vẫn mọc theo các hướng bình thường. Đây là dạng dễ làm nhất bởi chỉ cần cắt giật 1 lần với những cành vừa vừa, còn lại chi dăm vẫn chăm sóc bình thường.

Những sắc thái khác cần được xem kỹ để biết cây bonsai có ở dáng gió đùa hay không

Ví dụ 1: Đây không phải là cây gió lùa bởi không có cành lớn mọc ngược gió. Ta có thể hiểu đây là cây mọc nơi chân núi, bị che sáng 1 nửa nên cây mọc hết về 1 bên như vậy. Những cành mọc hướng vào chân núi thiếu sáng nên sẽ dần bị đào thải.

Ví dụ 2: Đây không phải cây gió lùa mà là cây mọc gần bờ nước. Rễ của nó bò tới gần mặt nước và cành lá cũng chạy theo hướng phát triển của rễ. Điều này nghe có vẻ mơ hồ nhưng nhiều nghệ nhân khẳng định ở điều kiện phát triển tự do thì phần cây bên trên là hình ảnh phản chiếu của bộ rễ

Ví dụ 3: Đây là cây mọc nơi lộng gió nhưng ngay lúc này thì trời im gió. Bằng chứng là cành còn sống mọc hết về 1 phía, cành ngược gió thì đã bị bẻ gãy. Các chi dăm mọc nhiều phía chứng tỏ lúc này trời im gió.

Phân biệt dáng gió đùa và dáng nghiêng

Dáng nghiêng là dáng cây mọc nghiêng (!) mà ta cần phải bố trí cành, rễ thế nào đó để khi ngắm tổng thể cây có vẻ đứng vững chứ không bị đổ nghiêng bởi trọng lực.
Dáng gió lùa là dáng mà cây phải chịu 2 lực tác động: trọng lực và sức thổi của gió. Để dễ hình dung, bạn hãy tưởng tượng một người đang cố đi ngược gió. Đầu người đó chúi về phía trước, quần áo phần phật bay về phía sau, thêm nữa là gió cuốn người đó nhổm khỏi mặt đất (chuyện nhổm khỏi mặt đất được giải thích ở hình cô bé cầm ô bên trên.)

Những cây nào có thể làm dáng gió lùa?

Thông thường thì những cây cong quẹo làm gió lùa đã mắt hơn cây dáng trực, tuy vậy tất cả mọi cây đều có thể làm lùa bởi ngoài tự nhiên gió thổi tất, chẳng chừa cây nào. Ví dụ cây mai chiếu thủy dưới đây là demo của ông Robert khi tới Việt Nam. Nhiều người xem tỏ ý thất vọng với cây này. Cá nhân mình thấy cây này ông Robert làm thành công, chỉ là vì thời gian ngắn ngủi quá, cái ngọn mới cắt xong chưa nuôi được ngọn mới có kích thước phù hợp khiến cho cái cây nhìn “cụt lủn”. Nhưng chắc chắn cây này mai mốt sẽ đẹp.

Về giống cây, nếu diễn tả một cây có gió đang thổi qua thì nên chọn cây lá bản nào chậm lớn, lá nhỏ mà lại thật nhiều cành dăm. Còn cây lá kim lại dễ miêu tả những tác động mà gió để lại: gẫy cành, gẫy thân.

Kỹ thuật quấn dây và cắt giật

Trong việc tạo dáng gió đùa nên áp dụng cả 2 kỹ thuật quấn dây và cắt giật. Cắt giật tạo nên những khúc quặt mạnh mẽ có thể áp dụng đối với những đoạn cành bị bẻ quặt bởi gió, còn quấn dây để định hướng những cành dăm nhỏ cho thật chính xác.

Chăm sóc uốn tỉa

Những cây dáng gió đùa yêu cầu phải cắt tỉa liên tục. Bởi để phát tự nhiên thì cành dăm sẽ to lên và góc uốn của cành dăm sẽ không còn hợp lý nữa.
Ý tưởng chưa được kiểm định: Giả sử bây giờ ta kê cục gạch dưới đáy khay cho cây nghiêng đi như hình dưới, liệu việc chăm sóc cây gió lùa có dễ dàng hơn chăng? Mình chỉ mới thực hiện ý tưởng này, chưa có kết quả. Mọi người cùng thử và đánh giá giúp mình nhé.
Phải chăng ông Robert khuyên nên dùng cây lá bản để tạo dáng gió lùa bởi cần cắt sửa thường xuyên với dáng này, mà cây lá kim không chịu nổi việc đó?
